Our Mission

We believe in a world where…

Everyone has access to movement care.

The power of healing through movement is inaccessible for far too many. We collaborate with local rehabilitation centers and other providers to connect individuals from underserved communities with movement care practitioners. We’re committed to ensuring that lack of resources is not a barrier to care.

Movement care is supported over time.

Traditionally, care ends abruptly when someone leaves the medical system. But there can still be many steps to take on the road to healing. At MCC, we collaborate with referring physical therapists to support people as they transition from the medical system to community movement care.

Our community is invested in helping, too.

To improve access in a sustainable way, we all have a part to play. In addition to the crucial grant foundation that supports our work, our for-profit partner organization, Pilates Done Differently, fundraises and facilitates generous support from our community.

Testimonials

“Pilates was never tangible for me and The Movement Care Collective opened the doors wide and gave me this life changing opportunity. I’m eternally grateful for the guidance and support I’ve received. After years of severe back pain, not knowing what to do, I am finally finding my way - a new way, to move and live more comfortably!

Being able to take Pilates has made me stronger, smarter, better, healthier! It has also helped me feel more whole and given me purpose. As a survivor of domestic violence, I never thought I deserved to do something so wonderful for myself. It’s better than any therapy Ive ever had.” --K. J.

“I suffered from back pain for years. I tried different methods (medicine, belt, exercises) without success. A few months ago, I heard about a program called the Movement Care Collective, where I met Caitlin. We met weekly and she used every minute to teach me how to walk, breathe, and move. Each time I had a session with her, I learned new exercises. I've never had an experience like that. Caitlin was so patient, attentive, and just a great person! As a result, my condition improved, I can sleep well, and I can control my body. Thank you very much, Caitlin, for everything you've done for me!-- Marina
“Getting to be in these one on one sessions and now doing the group classes have extremely changed my life for the better. I broke my arm and not only felt it physically but it weighed on me mentally. My body after every session feels so much better! My mental health has greatly improved thanks to getting help with it through Pilates. I was new to Pilates and now I don’t know how I’ll ever live without it.” - K. A.

So far, we’ve provided over 400 free movement care classes.
